Our volunteers are the heartbeat of our organization.

Not only are they an integral part of how we are able to serve our community, they’re also like our family. We couldn’t be prouder of and grateful to the wonderful people that give their time and heart to our program. From volunteers who have been with us since the beginning to ones who have joined us more recently, we are truly fortunate for such great help.

Volunteers support us with… keeping our warehouse in good working order, assembling food bags, delivering food bags to sites during the school year and the summer, sharing the program with their family and friends, and supporting our main office and special events.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What jobs do you have available?
  • Warehouse: As a warehouse volunteer, you would be working with a team to put food orders together for each site. This requires some moderate to heavy lifting, bending, twisting, and constant walking. You are sure to laugh and have fun while getting your daily workout!
  • Distribution: These volunteers drive to our warehouse, pick up food bags which have been packed in bins/boxes, take the food to designated sites, take the bins into the school/site, and retrieve the empty bins from the previous week. We do ask that you return the empty bins to the Kids Aid warehouse at the end of your shift. Depending on the site, you could be taking enough food for 10 children or for over 200 children.
  • Warehouse and Distribution volunteers work once a week for an average of 3 hours a week and mostly follow the Mesa County Valley School District 51 calendar.
  • Summer: This fluctuates each summer as we continue to do our part to alleviate childhood hunger. We often follow some of the D51 Lunch Lizard routes and typically serve schools hosting summer school. We also have sites that we serve all year round in addition to our Pop Up Stops. We offer home deliveries as well for those neighbors that cannot access our food bags anywhere else. We need both Warehouse and Distribution volunteers for the summer program. Contact us about these opportunities.
  • Events: Our main event is our Golden Ticket Event. This is held once a year, to celebrate those that participate in our program. This event is usually held in late April or early May. Volunteers are needed for this event. We also have booths at many community events throughout the year. Contact us about those opportunities.
When can I volunteer?

Typical warehouse volunteer opportunities occur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Distribution volunteer opportunities occur on Wednesdays and Thursdays. An evening/weekend may be available, however, they tend to fill quickly, and are mostly for events.

How often can I volunteer?

There are opportunities to volunteer on a weekly basis, or to volunteer less frequently as a substitute, or for special events. If you are unable to volunteer on a weekly basis, ask about our substitute and back-up volunteer lists.

Can kids volunteer?

We LOVE to have children volunteer! Contact us about these opportunities.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes (jeans and t-shirts are the best) you do not mind getting dirty and closed toe shoes.

How long are volunteer shifts?

The length of volunteer shifts can vary from one to three hours.

What happens after I submit a volunteer application?

After submitting your application, our staff will review your information and contact you with the status of your application. If your skillset and availability match a current volunteer opening, we will reach out to schedule an initial interview. Assuming we are still a match, you will then be invited to shadow another volunteer to get a sense of what is involved. After completing each of these steps (application review, interview, shadowing), you will then be assigned a volunteer position. (This may vary depending on position.)
