Kids Aid is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing for the needs of children, with a primary focus on supplying food to hungry kids. In collaboration with local schools, childcare providers and other organizations, our Backpack Program sends food home with children who otherwise would go hungry over the weekend. Experiencing food insecurity can limit a child’s ability to learn, grow and have fun. Kids Aid is a community solution to “helping kids be kids.”
Kids Aids’ primary program is The Backpack Program. Many children go hungry on the weekend—the last meal these children have is lunch on Friday, and they don’t eat again until lunch on Monday. The Backpack Program attempts to bridge that gap by sending these children home with bags full of non-perishable foods that are kid-friendly—it can either be easily prepared by a child or eaten right from the package. Nutrition is always a consideration, as is providing a variety of foods each week. Currently, we serve approximately 2,000 children in our district every week.
