Who we are

Who We Are

Kids Aid is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing for the needs of children, with a primary focus on supplying food to hungry kids. In collaboration with local schools, childcare providers and other organizations, our Backpack Program sends food home with children who otherwise would go hungry over the weekend. Experiencing food insecurity can limit a child’s ability to learn, grow and have fun. Kids Aid is a community solution to “helping kids be kids.”

The Backpack Program

Kids Aids’ primary program is The Backpack Program. Many children go hungry on the weekend—the last meal these children have is lunch on Friday, and they don’t eat again until lunch on Monday. The Backpack Program attempts to bridge that gap by sending these children home with bags full of non-perishable foods that are kid-friendly—it can either be easily prepared by a child or eaten right from the package. Nutrition is always a consideration, as is providing a variety of foods each week. Currently, we serve approximately 3,000 children in our district every week.

Volunteer

Our program could not run without our committed and compassionate volunteers. We’re continually amazed by their dedication to the kids and families in our community. At any given point, we have over 175 volunteers each week who give their time to pack bags, make deliveries, organize supplies, advocate for our organization, and so much more. If you want to make a difference in the lives (and stomachs) of kids in Mesa County, visit our volunteer page for more information and to submit your application.
