Kids Aid is successful because of our volunteers! Volunteers are an integral part of our weekly operations and we depend on over 140 individuals to organize and distribute thousands of bags of food to all schools in the Grand Valley.
If you are interested in volunteering, there are a few ways you can help:
Warehouse*: As a warehouse volunteer, you would be working with a team of 3 or 4 and putting food together for each school. This requires some moderate to heavy lifting. You will laugh while getting your daily workout!
Distribution*: These volunteers drive to our warehouse and pick up food to be sacked and take the food to designated schools before the end of the school week. Depending on the school, you could be taking enough food for 10 or for over 200 students. You will see the happiness and gratitude of the students each week!
Summer: This fluctuates each summer as we follow the Lunch Lizard routes and typically serve schools hosting summer school. We need both Warehouse and Distribution volunteers for the summer program. We currently have open volunteer driver positions!
Events: Currently, Kids Aid holds one annual event and always needs help in various capacities.
Dehydrating Fruit at Food Bank of the Rockies: The Food Bank of the Rockies’ dehydration program donates dehydrated fruit to our Backpack Program. The fruit is a favorite of the kids and it’s FREE to us! We need volunteers to help them dehydrate to meet our weekly needs.
Clerical: If you prefer office work, we could always use a hand with various tasks.
*Warehouse and Distribution volunteers work once a week for an average of 3 hours a week and follow the Mesa County District #51 calendar. At this time, we are in operation for 34 weeks of the year plus summer. We do not distribute during breaks during the school year.
